Strike is a national student-run fashion, art & culture magazine based in multiple cities across the US. Strike features a wide variety of unique creative-driven content created by students of the magazine. This includes fashion-related photoshoots, writing pieces & poetry, experimental & bold layout designs, and a heavy social media presence.
Strike is composed of makeup artists, stylists, photographers, writers, models, graphic designers, directors, assistants, editors, etc.
For each city it’s based on, Strike has a unique theme for every magazine issue it publishes. The issue’s theme is divided into “concepts” (essentially chapters), which tells a story or share ideas that is relevant to the theme. Themes are typically related to Gen Z’s social culture, aspects, reflections, and views of everyday life (I.E: common topics like love, oneself, coming of age, etc).
Under the Miami division, starting in 2025, I worked in Strike Miami’s eighth issue as a graphic & layout designer. Alongside with my co-designer and under the direction of the creative/graphics director, I designed the spreads for the concept “A Speck in the Universe”. It is one of the four concepts of the issue’s main theme, “Living in a Daydream”. All of the spreads were done in Adobe Photoshop using photographs from the photoshoots and extensively editing them. i08’s production in total was 4 months of work.
Provided is the full digital copy of Strike Miami’s eighth issue and below are the spreads that I specficially did designs for. In the interactive flip-book PDF, Speck is through pages 70-93.
I originally was the one that conceived the idea for Speck. It was then later refined and polished by the EIC and directors of Strike Miami. Here is my original mood board that I submitted as a concept during our brainstorming phase for i08's concepts. (Click to expand)
The giant mood board my co-designer and I frequently posted on during the production for the spreads of "A Speck in the Universe". A lot of sticky notes were used. (Click to expand)
